Case Study - Charles Worthington

Coda was approached by its Client PZ Cussons Ltd to work with them on the redevelopment of their Charles Worthington Brand.

Coda explored the key brand image points with our client and worked closely with marketing and NPD to deliver a framework for the generation of concept pack structure, key issues were to retain the brands distinctive styling but enhance the structures functionality and ergonomics.

Coda presented a series of 3D modelled structure designs illustrating potential concepts including a concept to develop a full form disk top system with a front facing actuation which would be the first in the UK with this feature, this design was chosen for development and Coda selected as the manufacturing partner.

This technically challenging structure required zero front face flow lines in pearl and metallic materials and did not allow the use of conventional visible lugs to control the opening of the disk; production required automated robotic assembly and test of the disk units.

Through the use of flow prediction software at the 3D design stage Coda were able to ensure that any flow marks would be moved to less visible areas, and through 3D simulation were able to develop alternate technology for concealed lugs to control the disk opening, working closely with our manufacturing partners we were able to develop proof of concept for the robotic unloading and assembling system.

Coda managed the structural development project to deliver on time Pilot tooling samples for early line trial, production tooling and robotic assembly cells and supported the client with all line trials.
